Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village

Palawan not only takes pride of their majestic beaches and lagoons but also for having a diverse habitat for different species. One of these places is the Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village located in Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City. This beautiful garden is a sanctuary of different butterfly species in Southeast Asia.

Once you enter the garden, you will be immediately swarmed by colorful butterflies and dragonflies. The place is so magical that in a split second I thought I was in fairyland. *Nah, that was just an exaggeration.

Entrance fee is 50php but I believe they have a discount for students and seniors. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my school ID that time. 😐

There are also several animals inside the garden such as crocodiles, lizards, scorpions, and worms.

One of the guides dared us to hold the scorpion but we were all hesitant. Hah! She told us that they only sting if you harm them. Nevertheless, I wasn’t brave enough to do it. Maybe next time. Hehe

TRIBAL VILLAGE

In the Tribal Village, you will be able to interact with native people of the Palaw’an tribe. They will teach you a few things about their culture like their blow dart exhibition, their way of hunting and their daily life routine. By way of supporting them, you can donate or buy Palaw’an made products that are handcrafted by the local village people.

P.S: I’m wearing shorts there. Haha!

How to get there:

Tricycle – This is actually what I love about Puerto Princesa. Most stores are pretty much accessible via tricycle. Some tricycle drivers would offer you the City Tour package for Php 300-500/pax depending on the number of placing you want to visit.  We only paid Php 200 each since we didn’t visit all places included in the package.

However, if you are not planning to get the tour, you can ask the tricycle driver to transport you directly there. It would cost around Php 150 but you can discuss it with the driver.

Van – It costs around Php1000-1500 for 4 hours. Just inform the attendant in the hotel/pension house you are staying and they’ll contact the agency’s who can offer the best deal for you.

Additional Info:

The City Tour package includes:
Plaza Cuartel
Palawan Massacre Monument
Crocodile Farm and Palawan Wildlife
Butterfly Garden
Rancho Mitra
Baker’s Hill

Palawan Cathedral
